Earrings are Back
Earrings are back, conspicuous, obvious and framing your face. In the past few years status bags and towering heels have taken all our attention, but in this world of recovering economic turmoil, earrings are the ultimate accessory that gives the most versatility and freedom.
Don’t make apologies for wearing outrageous earrings, accept and applaud yourself for being so “out there”. Draw back your hair or even have it cut off and allow your earrings to be on show not hiding behind loose tendrils of hair. Really long shoulder dusters can of course, look great appearing from behind your hair line.
If you are wearing big, exotic earrings leave attention on your face and avoid wearing an equally outrageous fashion necklace. In fact, leave off the necklace entirely! Wasn’t it Coco Chanel who suggested that before you exit your house, take off one piece of jewellery? If you need more jewellery (and who doesn’t?) consider dress rings or bracelets.
Colour? Choose carefully and wear the colour that suits your complexion. Light from the earrings will shine back into your face. You might match the earrings to the colour of your outfit or choose something with extreme contrast just to shock. It is great fun to change your habits just for a day here and there – enjoy!
Price? Fashion Costume Jewellery varies so much but remember it is fashion and trends pass frequently, so look for reasonably priced but limited edition earrings. Best if everyone isn’t wearing them! Above all, celebrate who you are and show the world that you are magnificent.
Diamante Teardrop Earrings
Delicate Teardrop Earrings Earring Jewellery varies considerably, from the strong and chunky to the small and delicate. This pair of glass earrings is somewhere in between. The long glass dangles are enhanced by a crystal rondelle adding sparkle.
These romantic style earrings are suitable to be worn on formal occasions or for a special night out. Earrings such as these make any evening dress look more glamorous. Allow the earrings to shine through by down playing your eye makeup to soft shades and add a matching soft shade lipstick. This gives an ingenue feel to your killer outfit. The rhinestone rondelle between the teardops adds a slight touch of bling without being overpowering, adding to the ladylike ambiance of the earrings.
The earrings would be equally as suitable for a bride or bridesmaids. The glass beads add an air of the virginal while the rhinestones add an air of drama. Our sister website rayclif.com offers more details on this beautiful earring.
Earring Jewellery to suit your face shape – Part 2 – The Oval Face
Ear Decor can change your life. I remember wearing a particular pair of rather cheap (and looking back, nasty) earrings and something special happened. You know I carted the earrings around for years determined that they played a part in my destiny. Whether or not you believe in good luck talisman earrings or not, you can certainly improve your self esteem and your fashion outfit by selecting a pair of earrings that really suit your face shape.
Having been born with a rather round face, I am always aware of the oval or almond shaped face; this is considered to be (from all my readings) the ideal shape to have been born with. If you have am oval face your face is longer than wide, with an sort of like an upside down egg like shape (that sounds all wrong, let me simply say, then, that your face is widest over the cheek bones), your jaw line can be narrower than your forehead though.
So how can you best enhance an oval face with your earring jewellery? You are very fortunate if you have an oval face because you can wear any shape earring.
Think about wearing round shapes, button or hoop earrings, but triangular shapes are also rather attractive. Dangling earrings look good, just be careful to not make them too long, some very large shoulder dusters will just simply just make you look as if your face is long and slightly out of proportion.
Earrings that move up the ear, perhaps studs or clips with multiple components will minimize a thin face or long nose.
Keep the size of the earring in proportion to the wearer, whether you are petite or large.
You can of course bring even more attention to your earrings by pulling back your hair or wearing it in an updo. With your clothing, wide, open necklines, high collars or turtle necks emphasize the oval face.
Earring Jewellery to suit your face shape – Part 1 – The Round Face
Choosing the right earrings can make a massive difference to the way you feel and to the way you look. Your face shape is one of the most important criteria for making the right selection. Over the next few posts, we will be looking at what is right for you and your shape, starting with the round face. Earring jewellery choices are easy when you know what you are looking for and what suits you.
The round faced person is characterised by a face that is about the same width as height, the area across your cheek bones is the widest and fullest area of your face and you probably have a round hairline.

Round earrings are not suitable for a round face
Earrings for the round faced person should not reflect the shape of your face, so avoid round, hoop or button earrings at all costs. What we want to achieve is an illusion of length, so look at the longer styles. Dangle, chandelier and shoulder duster earrings are your best friends. Try pulling your hair back behind your ears and adding a long drop earring. Try to find long earrings that are more narrow than wide, again to give that feeling of length.
- Long, narrow earrings are suitable for those with round faces
If you want to wear a simple shape, look for geometrics such as square, oblong or rectangles.
There are lots of earrings available for those with the round face shape in casual as well as elegant, sophisticated styles for that night on the town. Your fashion attire will naturally determine how dressy your costume jewellery need be.
When you are selecting your earring jewellery, try to pick earrings that contain shapes other than round, for example, for example in the earring pictures below, pick the pink diamond earring over the colourful green round earring.
Selecting Jewellery for Off the Shoulder Fashions
On your next night out, wear the latest off the shoulder fashions with confidence. Choosing your accessories is not just about choosing shoes but selecting the best fashion jewellery to compliment your outfit.
In some ways, selecting shoes is so very easy – match the colour to your outfit and add heels!
Off the shoulder fashions are a little tricky – the line of the dress cuts across your shoulder line so wearing a pendant or necklace can detract from the neck line. In fact, we suggest you do not wear any necklace or pendant, but concentrate instead on feature earrings.
Beaded earrings work well with an off the shoulder dress, long and dangling, they work a little like the neck line and attract attention upwards towards your face.
We like to suggest long earrings, as mentioned, beaded earrings work well but bright and sparking cubic zirconia work well too. If you can tie back your hair or frame your face, all the better to feature the earrings.
Naturally, although in this case, pendants are out, there is nothing to stop you wearing a matching bracelet or rings to bring attention to your hands. We also find that bracelets and rings make you feel dressed and elegant, matching the elegant cut of your gown.

Colour and Fashion Costume Jewellery – Think Pink Earrings
Pantone have released their new 2010 Spring Fashion Colour Report - these reports are great. Check out their ideas of the colours for Spring. Fashion Costume jewellery of course must follow the trends of the Fashion Industry and this seasons colours are super. As Adam Lippes is quoted in this report : “I think customers want special and unique now more than ever. And they want to see good value”. So lets have a look at one of the Spring Colours as recommended in the Pantone report and see what we can find in our earring collection.
Champagne Pink is the colour I have chosen for this article. The old adage of Thinking Pink still applies today – it can be girly and it can also be sophisticated and everything in between.
First cab off the rank are the earrings – no self respecting person is dressed without earrings! The first pair on the left are so pretty without being kitch. The cloissonne beads add interest and movement while the Swarovski crystal inset in the gold fitting adds brilliance and defines the whole piece. This is a limited release earring at only $12.50 – what did Adam Lippes say about value! Aquire your earrings here.
For those who prefer a silver setting, what about our second pair?
Lovely delicate pink beads adorn the chandelier fitting (again complete with the Swarovski crystal centre). a very different look for day or evening. Purchase your pair here.
The first two earrings are beautiful and sensual, with elegance and taste written all over them – ideal for day or evening wear.
For something quite different, this time in Bronze accents, large but still with the feel of the Champagne Pink, what about these chandelier earrings? I love them, the Boho feel is amazing and they are different and trendy.
They measure 6cm from the top of the hook to the bottom of the base bead so are certainly an example of large jewellery, but they do not look clunky when worn. More details can be found here.
Each of the earrings we have featured here are very different and very Pink! Which pair do you prefer?
Chandelier Earrings
The basic definition of a chandelier earring is that the earring must have more than one drop of components, preferably three or more. Earring jewellery is quite diverse when looking at fashion costume jewellery. Let us explore sopme of the styles available.
Boho or Bohemian style jewellery is generally considered to be large with a large number of beads. The silver chandelier earrings shown to the left are a good example of this form. Although the fitting is in this case silver, it is not uncommon for the fitting to be bronze.
The chandellier form is oval and the beads hang like crystals on a chandelier. many Boho styles incorporate more than one colour – often autumn colours, like the almost identical pair on the right.
Shoulder dusters are extremely long chandelier earrings. They stretch from your ear lobe to at least your shoulders and are a form often worn by celebrities (being very popular in music videos). The shoulder duster is an extremely theatrical form of fashion costume jewellery earrings.
Classic chandelier earrings take many forms. They tend to be structured, often using rhinestones and are often no longer than level with your chin. An example of the classic chandelier earring is shown on the right. This earring jewellery uses glass pearls or fire polish crystal (really rather sparkling glass) to create a style to go with refined, special occasion fashions. It is interesting to see the difference that the bead makes on the chandelier earring – contrast the fire polish beads on the left to the glass pear earrings out model Sarah is wearing on the right.

Beaded earrings are often made in the chandelier fashion. Beads move gracefully on the chandelier fittings and are available in infinite colour combinations.
