Jewellery for the Heat Wave

We’re having a heat wave – a tropical heat wave – at least while Europe is blanketed in snow, here in Perth, Western Australia we are sweltering. It’s been quite a week here at Rayclif with our home under a bush fire alert and all of our roads closed! But still we think jewellery. So what is suitable for the forty degree (that’s Celsius) heat we are expecting for the next few days?

With hot conditions you really don’t want huge expanses of anything hanging around you so we have devised the Heat Wave pendant. The pendants are small (around 20-25mm in diameter), hand made glass pendants that are bright and beautiful – just like the weather.

Each pendant is displayed and worn on a push clasp neoprene cord, great for those folk who are insensitive to metal and easy to pop on for everyone.

As with all of our Rayclif jewellery, it comes in a gift box, complete with a special backing card.

We are adding more of these pendants all the time, so check them out at rayclif.com.

Desert Tracks

The contrasting colours of the blood red splat represents footprints across the stunning yellow desert - a heat wave indeed.

Buried Treasure

For some reason I have always believed that Pirates only work in the summer! So this blue pendant represents the sea and the place where the pirates bury their treasure! So what is underneath the pendant - why your heart of course - treasure indeed!

Sunrise

Already at sunrise, the heat is up us. This lovely hand made glass pendant represents the sizzling sun in our azure skies.

Hummingbird Pendant

So often vintage pendants are somewhat tongue in cheek and a little disappointing, but this new, handmade, vintage like pendant took my fancy. The hummingbird is a copper construction while the blue agate (yes, a real gemstone) is a lovely foil.

Blue agate is said to aid in the truth, so you can be sure that if you wear this pendant, you will be true to yourself. Because the gemstone is natural, you can expect some variations in the colour.

The chain is 14 Kt gold filled and measures 24 inches in length (thats about 60cm). The pendant itself is almost three inches long (thats about 7cm in length).

The designer is Katharine Sise and each hummingbird pendant is handmade.

Do you like it? It retails at about $195.

Outrageous Fashion Jewellery

Unlike fine jewellery that tends to have a large price tag, fashion jewellery is an area in which experiments and outrageous pieces can be created or commissioned. Fine jewellery tends to be an investment with some considerable forethought before purchase so I suspect buyers play a little safe in their designs, thinking that they will need to last a long time in order to achieve the value for money.

What fun though to be able to wear a piece simply because you can and just because it feels so right for your mood and outfit. Who says jewellery should be serious?

Here at Rayclif Fashion Jewellery, we tend not to make a large number of outrageous pieces, being very comfortable with our unusual but classic designs. But, check out some of our Beaded Cabochons, all hand beaded and all one of a kind. What do you think? Are they just a little outrageous?

Black Onyx Beaded CabochonA cool round black onyx cabochon is encased in silver lined seed beeds and fringed by tassels of blue goldstone and clear quartz. Unusual and different, this one of a kind piece also has a removeable necklace for versatility and could be worn as a pin (with a pin attachment).

Check out more details.

Twisted Twirls Beaded CabochonOr a little different on the right is our “Twisted Twirls” so named as the necklace is a spiral rope of hundreds of hand beaded silver lined seed beads. If you listen very carefully, the glass beads at the end of the fringe gently clink as you move. Very sensual.

Desert Sunrise Beaded Cabochon PendantFinally “Desert Sunrise” a hand made glass cabochon again surrounded by glass beads (the beads are from the Czech Republic – they make wonderful glass beads). This piece was inspired by the colours of the outback here in Australia – you will love the depth of colour in this piece.

The Key to Fashion Costume Jewellery

Tiffany introduced their beautiful gold and silver key pendants and we are still guessing as to their significance – is it the key to your door or the key to your heart (its worn quite close).
