Should I wear a ring?

Cubic Zirconia Right Hand ringMany people are conscious of their hands, they may feel they are too big or too small, too thin or too fat. In all of these cases and even if you have perfectly proportioned hands you can wear a ring. The basic rules are that it should not be so big as to restrict movement in your fingers and it must be comfortable. Ring jewellery is for everyone.

If you have never worn a ring and perhaps are a little self conscious, take heart, you will never know how you feel until you try. Rings have the distinction of being quick to put on and quick to take off and occupy very little space if you decide to stow it in your handbag.

Don’t feel you need to wait for a formal or red carpet event to wear a ring. Although rings add glamour and style, they are quite acceptable with just jeans and a cami or t-shirt.

If you talk with your hands, they can be more expressive with rings. Rings can also match your mood or set the tone of the day. If you do not talk with your hands, talk to them by adorning them with rings. Adding a ring is like buying a party for your hands and just makes you feel good.

There is a tradition that the third finger on your left hand is reserved for engagement, marriage, eternity and partnership rings – that’s the finger next to the little finger on the left hand. Many people continue this tradition, but often extend it to all of the fingers on the left hand – this is really not necessary. The right hand is open for wearing rings on any finger, so much so that cocktail and dress rings are often referred to as right hand rings. On which finger you decide to wear the ring is up to you.

At very formal occasions, it is not unusual to see a ring worn over an elbow length evening glove. This can look very classy, if you do this, take no notice whatsoever of the ring and more people will notice your style and grace. Pulling and tugging at the glove or twisting the ring is really indicative of your discomfort.

Remember it is okay to feel good and a little glamourous – so adding a ring can add that frisson of the unexpected to your day. Go on – try it! Check out this selection of rings.

So now check out my very next favourite (I like to share my favours) – this is an entirely different style an elegant and shimmering ring measuring just  12x8mm across the design. I love the way the three marquis stones nestle together and just sing out style. At just $25.50 this rhodium plated ring is great value. With this different but contemporary and elegant styling this is sure to be a compliment stealer when you wear it.

Right Hand Ring - Passion Flower Dress Ring

Cubic Zirconia Dress Ring - Red Passion Flower

For my third choice today, the next ring is passionate and alive, the “passion flower” ring is set with a dark red cubic zirconia and surrounded by petals of gorgeous diamond substitute cubic zirconias. How amazing is this! The whole design measures about 17mm x 17mm and will sit comfortably on your hand surrounded by tarnish resistant rhodium plate setting. I love this – it adds just the right zing when you want to exert your individuality while not overpowering your audience. The price? Just $35.00.

Fashion Jewellery Gifts for Your Man

Presents for men

Gifts for your man

Valentine’s Day is about saying “I Love You” to that special someone you love. If it is a man to whom you are saying these wonderful words, there is no reason not to present him with a gift too. Valentine’s Day is not just for the ladies.

Fewer men are going to be delighted with a heart shaped jewellery gift however! For a Man’s valentine Day present, may we suggest a dress ring or bracelet – of course in a masculine style and in masculine colours.

Men’s jewellery has evolved in the last few years with many designers jumping on the growing bandwagon. Men like to look good too.

Mens Classic Dress Ring

Men’s Dress Rings for example are an ideal gift, many come with Cubic Zirconia stones to highlight the design, like in this gold plate ring from rayclif.com. The stylish square cut dress ring has two small cubic zirconia to highlight the stylish black enamel diagonal stripe. A real man’s ring. Many men have a ring stored in their bedside table drawer a quick look will give you the dimensions you need – just trace around the inside of the ring and measure it from side to side, add a millimetre or two to be sure and order away! Most reputable jewellery companies will be happy to exchange if you find you have ordered the wrong size.

Men’s bracelets however are a little easier to purchase as no special sizing is necessary. A man’s bracelet is usually 20-21cm long so will fit the average man beautifully. This jewellery is a great adjunct to a man’s fashion wardrobe, the styles are classic and strong and the construction will see him through many an evening out. Here is an example, a man’s two tone bracelet in rhodium and gold plate. See how the geometry of the design shows strength and the colours compliment each other to further enhance the bracelet?

Right Hand Rings – Dress Rings

Diamond like right handed dress ring

Diamond like right handed dress ring

One of the most exciting fashion trends is the use of Right hand rings or Dress Rings. Rings worn on the right hand are one way of expressing your fashion preferences and your personality.

Although the left hand is traditionally used for rings that indicate your relationship status such as wedding and engagement rings, the right hand is free for any type of ring unfettered by tradition.

One of the sheer pleasures of the right hand dress ring is that even diamonds or cubic zirconia may be worn with impunity.

When deciding on a ring there are a number of factors to consider including the composition of the ring. Naturally rings are made with a variety of metals including brass with a plate of either gold or rhodium. These rings are very hard wearing and will not tarnish.

Precious metals are also used in the production of right hand dress rings. The inclusion of rolled gold (sometimes known as gold filled ) and sterling silver or argentium sterling silver (tarnish resistant) makes the ring a little more expensive but can also make you feel that much more fashionable and chic.

All rings are subject to wear so ensure you wear the ring only when not immersed in harsh cleaning substances or when gardening. Remember too that as lovely as may rings are, if they have points and loops, they can catch on towels and cardigans (not that it should stop you wearing them).

The design you select should be influenced by your lifestyle. Cocktail rings are currently very popular. They are large and over the top rings to be worn either for formal or informal occasions. Channel Audrey Hepburn and wear your rings over a stunning black evening glove when teamed with that special occasion black gown. Cocktail rings are also great for casual occasions – there is nothing wrong with feeling wonderful about yourself which can easily be achieved with a stunning ring. Your hands feel elegant and feminine when wearing a lovely ring.

Although the range of right hand dress rings is huge, there is no restriction on the style of ring, so if you have a preference for solitaires or cluster rings, this is quite acceptable – remember the choice of the jewellery is entirely up to you and is about you.

Many of the available rings contain a quantity of stones, naturally the more stones, the larger the ring. Rings traditionally have the stones displayed along the shank of the ring, but as rings grow larger, the design will grow away from the shank.

There are so very many styles, colours and sizes available in the dress ring, they are especially elegant with manicured and painted nails.

Costume Jewellery Rings

Expressing our personal style and interacting appropriately with our fashion wardrobe is important. Fashion costume jewellery allows us to do so without breaking the bank or feeling guilty!

This time, let’s talk about costume jewellery rings. Consider the clothing you wear each and every day for every occasion and think about how we can coordinate our costume jewellery rings.

Hand made glass rings

Hand made glass rings

Let’s start with your own time, are you wearing casual clothing – off to the shops or mall, out for coffee with a friend? Well, have we got just the thing for you – beautiful bright and can I say glitzy? The glass costume jewellery rings you see here are wonderful for brightening your day. The three colours in each ring allow you to coordinate or contrast with your clothing. Glass is such a winner, unless you drop it onto a hard surface or throw it against the wall, it will not break so your investment is secure for a long period of time (or until you get fed up with it!). The sheer beauty of these rings is that they are obvious – your friends and onlookers will be jealous of your jewellery.

Going to work and business meetings is a little different, you need your jewellery to be a little more conservative just like your clothing. So what rings do we suggest? You still need to feel good and look good without being over done. Check out the photograph of our resizable rings – these are a cool dichroic glass design with the cabochon being 10mm square. Dainty but colourful, bright without being glitzy, tidy without being boring. The resizable rings come in a gift box – so there is no need to worry about how to store and keep your ring free from tarnish.

This ring could take you through your work day and into the night.

Cubic Zirconia Ring

Costume jewellery should not necessarily be expensive but that does not mean it need not be really nice. 14K gold filled and sterling silver rings are available at under $100 and are stunning for special occasions. Rings are always visible and a special ring (I think) is a subconscious trigger to moving your hands more gracefully. What about the pictured 14K gold filled ring – this one has a 6mm tangerine coloured Cubic Zirconia stone, the stones are available in a number of colours so if the tangerine is a little loud for day wear a subdued blue or green may be more appropriate.

Now you can see what we mean by costume jewellery – jewellery that is appropriate to your “costume” or outfit whatever that may be – so why should our jewellery not be fashionable too?
